What’s the story behind this perk? In the early days before remote work was common, “culture” traditionally referred to the in-office experience. (Ping pong tables and kegs were quintessential examples of in-office startup culture!) Joel knew that we’d need to replace that in-office vibe with something that worked for a remote team, so the executive team decided to intentionally build our team culture and habits around our values. When it came to our Self-Improvement value, we identified universal self-improvement habits: more exercise, better sleep, and reading. So, we gifted Kindles to everyone and started the free books program. We also gave everyone on the team Jawbone Ups to track steps and sleep (and, of course, we did it transparently!). The Jawbone was discontinued, but the Kindle program lives on. Our Product Managers all got together for a meetup in Miami a few weeks ago! 🌴 Five Product Managers, our Chief Product Officer, and our Head of Design came in from 6 cities for this meetup. Here’s why the team met up: ➡️ To foster a strong relationship amongst our Product team (we hired 2 new Product Managers who hadn’t met the rest of the team in person yet) ➡️ To have deeper discussions about our product roadmap for 2024, what problems we’re trying to solve, and how we’ll get there.
